CHICAGO: India’s last hope for the title Saurav Ghosal made his way into the quarterfinals of the PSA World Squash Championship here on Tuesday after a closely fought win over Wales player Joel Makin.
Saurav Ghosal defeated the Welsh player by a score line of 11-13, 11-7, 11-7, 13-11. The 11th seeded Indian had to really pull up his socks to tackle a different prospect in the name of Joel Makin. The Welsh player really fought hard for every single point and interestingly made it very difficult for the Indian to win the match. However Saurav showed his experience to fight back after losing the first game. He made sure that he controls the proceedings and wins the next few games. Saurav won the second and the third game by a same score line of 11-7. The last game saw Saurav again trailing 5-8 but he managed to pull a comeback from their and finally winning the last game as well by 13-11. Though Saurav won what made this contest interesting was Joel’s never say die attitude. Being an unseeded player he impressed everyone and made life difficult for Saurav on the court.
This is only the second time that Saurav has reached the Quarterfinals, the last being in 2013. Now Saurav will face a much tougher opponent in the face of third seed German Simon Rosner.
