Results from Day 5 of the 9th Hockey India Junior Women National Hockey Championship 2019 (A Division)
~ Hockey Punjab, Hockey Chandigarh, Hockey HIM and Hockey Karnataka register victories in their Pool matches ~
Kollam (Kerala), 04 February 2019: Action in the 9th Hockey India Junior Women National Hockey Championship 2019 (A Division) continued here at the Hockey Stadium on Monday into its fifth day, which saw Hockey Punjab, Hockey Chandigarh, Hockey HIM and Hockey Karnataka secure victories in their respective Pool matches of the competition.
In Pool A, Hockey Punjab secured a consolation second win of the competition as they beat The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd. Goals for Hockey Punjab were scored by Harpreet Kaur (14′, 33′, 43′, 47′, 60′), Baljinder Kaur (3′, 30′), Gurkamalpreet Kaur (58′, 59′), Rozy Bharti (7′) and Amandeep Kaur (31′). The result means that neither of the teams will be able to make it through to the Quarter-Finals as Hockey Punjab finish with a tally of six points from their four matches, while The Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd. are yet to register a point with a match to play in Pool A.
In Pool B, Hockey Chandigarh registered their second win of the competition as they beat Hockey Uttarakhand 7-1 in their match on Monday. Hockey Chandigarh were helped by goals from Kavita (5′, 54′), Dhapa (28′, 29′), Rakhi (10′), Kamlesh (58′) and Captain Sonu (58′), while Hockey Uttarakhand’s consolation goal was scored by Prachi Upreti in the 13th minute. The result means that Hockey Chandigarh have accumulated seven points from their four matches, but could miss out on the Quarter-Finals if Sports Authority of India win their final Pool B match against Hockey Chandigarh by a healthy score-line.
Pool C’s only match of the day saw Hockey HIM register their first win of the competition as they beat Hockey Andhra Pradesh 5-1. Goals for Hockey HIM were scored by Tannu (16′), Captain Arti Kashyap (23′), Shweta (43′), Deepali (54′) and Radha (57′), while Hockey Andhra Pradesh’s goal was scored by Vara Lakshmi Uppidi (5′). The result means that both the teams will be unable to make it to the Quarter-Finals as Hockey HIM have gathered 4 points from their four matches, while Hockey Andhra Pradesh are yet to open their account with just one match left to play.
In Pool D, it was Hockey Karnataka who registered their second win of the competition to finish with a tally of seven points from four matches. Hockey Karnataka defeated Hockey Bihar by a fine margin of 6-0 and make a case for a Quarter-Final berth. Goals for Hockey Karnataka were scored by S D Sandhya (20′, 43′), S Yuktha (21′, 23′), Kadambhari SM (6′) and S K Sumalatha (33′).
