GHAZIABAD: Teams of KPL Season 5 continued their journey to the finals as Ashu Warriors, Eagles Cricket Club and ALFA earned big wins at Mohan Meakins Cricket Ground Ghaziabad on Sunday. A total of 3 exciting games were played this weekend with the 3 already stated teams winning against NFC, RSCC and AVYAAN Blasters respectively.
The first game on Sunday was played between Ashu Warriors and NFC as the latter won the toss and elected to field first. The decision to bowl first proved to be a curse as Warriors headed towards a huge total in the first innings. Warriors kept on building good partnerships and a quick fire 71 off 32 balls by Ravi Singh took Warriors total to 179 in 20 overs while losing just 4 wickets. In response Eagles couldn’t cope with the scoreboard pressure and kept on losing wickets at regular time period. Eagles could only manage 120 on the board while chasing, thus losing the game by 59 runs. Ravi Singh was declared the Player of the match.
Second match was contested amongst RSCC and Eagles Cricket Club which was easily won by the Eagles by 7 wickets. RSCC decided to bat first after winning the toss but found themselves in problems in no time. Sunil Maurya of Eagles started bowling for them and completely outplayed the RSCC’s top order. RSCC were reduced to 24 for 4 in the powerplay. With 4 wickets down in no time RSCC was in deep trouble and they couldn’t even manage to play the 20 overs and were bowled out at 123 with Sunil picking up 4 wickets for just 9 runs. Eagles chased the score of 123 very easily in just 15 overs with Mohit being their highest scorer at 40. They won the game by 6 wickets and Sunil was decided as the Man of the Match.
Team Alfa played Team Avyaan Blasters in the final game on Sunday. Avyaan Blaster batted first and could only manage 113 on the board due to Vicky Jadon’s excellent bowling spell picking up four wickets. On the other hand Nikhil and Saurabh Tyagi were the only batsman to reach double figures and no other player showed intent to spend time on the crease. The chase looked a roller coaster ride for team Alfa as their middle order was on the verge of another collapse. But Opener Naveed’s half century and a middle order batsman Nakul’s 29 odd helped team Alfa to cross the winning line by 4 wickets. And for his match winning innings Naveed was awarded the man of the match award.
