JOSHNA CHINAPPA WONDERFUL RUN ENDED AT QUARTERFINAL AT BLACK BALL SQUASH OPENS
Egypt: Joshna Chinappa’s wonderful outing came to a fighting end late on Wednesday when the New Zealander and world number five Joelle King managed to douse the enthusiasm of the Indian in a five-game gruelling quarterfinal of the Women’s Black Ball Squash Open, a PSA gold event here.
Seeded three, King won the 64-minute engrossing match 7-11, 12-10, 2-11, 11-5, 11-8 to become the only non-Egyptian to enter the last four. It was a tight match with Joshna at one stage leading 2-1 in game scores and looking good to repeat the good going she has been in. But as the experienced New Zealander was to admit, she had to dig into her reserves to ensure that the Indian was not going to have it easy. As it happened as the contest wore on, Joshna’s lost the earlier grip and that turned the match around firmly into the opponent’s way.
